EP Review: Bloom by Letters to Part
by Shannon Dutra
Orlando, Florida’s ambient progressive rock band Letters to Part released their EP Bloom last November. The EP features poignant lyrics and captivating melodies.
The Weight I Let Go
The first track, The Weight I Let Go, combines multiple genres. This track is filled with interesting creative choices. The introduction features birdsong giving it an ethereal quality. The electric guitar arrives alongside the vocals about 30 seconds in. Lyrically, The Weight I Let Go wrestles with choice. It also comments on how you should not be proving yourself to anyone. “Centuries of life in full bloom / tell me how I am to choose / I got nothing to prove to you.” The track also features heavy guitar and fast drum fill. This track ends with a gentle instrumental that brings it full circle to the birdsong in the beginning.

With Your Heart
With Your Heart is a track that packs emotional depth. With lyrics such as “hard to comprehend, push through all anxiety, safety is a myth” the track calls out navigating anxiety and trying to push through. This track leaves it up to the listener to interpret. Personally, these lyrics suggest struggling to make sense of something, persevering through something anxiety-inducing. It also highlights the idea that safety might not exist in this situation. The track ends with a heart-to-heart phone call—it’s a poignant end.
