Show Review: Kristiane @ Schuba’s Tavern, Chicago, IL
by Catie Connelley
On Sunday, February 15th, Kristiane gave a beautiful performance full of powerful messages and emotions. Kristiane was joined by Growing Boys as the opening act, which consists of two best friends, Sydney Copeland and Kayla Seeber, making music about friendship. They played songs available to streamm but also new songs not yet released. Their show was incredible and got the audience super excited.
When Kristiane came out, she was accompanied by Kelsey, Georell Magno, and Jesse Munsat. They played an absolutely stunning set. Starting with “Good and Ready,” a song from her brand new EP Not Anything, Just Everything. A lot of the songs played during this set were from this new EP. Each song tells a story. All of her music is heartfelt and personal to her but the audience could definitely relate to them as well. Whether it's about love or change, it connected with the audience, including me.
The vibes were beautiful, it all felt so moving throughout the whole thing. Some other artists Kristiane reminds me of are the artists Lizzy McAlpine and Gigi Perez, both in storytelling and musicality. In my opinion, I think they fit into similar categories.
Throughout the show, she reached down into the audience while singing, which only made this show feel more comforting. A few of the songs played were done acoustic. Some older songs such as “Collateral Damage,” “Sleep Through The Fire,” and “Subtitles” played. These came from her 2024 album called Stray Dog. Yet again, very personal and emotional. The show finished out with “Wish I Could Be Your Girl,” which is from the 2021 album, I Miss Myself Sometimes album. I could definitely see myself having a good cry to her entire discography. This show was absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
