Daisy Grenade brings Chicago’s Subterranean alive with curated chaos across the floor

Written by Catie Connolly

CHICAGO – On Saturday, May 23, Daisy Grenade lit up Subterranean on their So Much To Say tour, celebrating the release of their latest EP. The pop duo is led by Keaton Whittaker and Dani Nigro, with support from lead guitarist Matias Sanes, bassist Adrian Koch, and drummer Pete Lazorcik.

Opening up the show was James “J” Barre, who writes and performs as Vienna Vienna. With an incredible performance singing some songs from his newest EP, Entertain Me, along with many others, he effortlessly produced a chaotic and electrifying introduction to the night. Closing out the show with the fan favorite God Save The Queens, Vienna Vienna evidently riled up the crowd for Daisy Grenade to take the stage momentarily.

The headliner started with their first song, A Beautiful Woman Is A Weapon, I Guess That’s Why They Call Her A Bombshell, on their latest EP.It was a powerful song, keeping the audience hyped as some started to dance along to the tunes. The whole performance was lively and chaotic in the best way. Despite it being a crowded room with little space to move, there was no shortage of energy.

As the show went on, songs like, Got It Bad and Are You Scared Of Me Yet? from their 2023 EP, Cult Classic, brought the energy up even more. As they started playing Emily, a fan favorite from So Much To Say, they brought an audience member on stage with them to play the character Emily from the music video, having them put on bunny ears as the whole crowd went wild. It was clear that Daisy Grenade really knows how to get the party started when the audience formed a dance circle in the middle of the floor.

More songs from the duo’s discography were played, such as Good Luck (Wish You Hell), It Must Be Me, So Happy, and the closer, Girls Are So Lucky. They even covered No Doubt when performing a cover of Hella Good

Whether one knows all the words to the songs or not, Daisy Grenade put on one of Chicago’s most energetic and exciting shows that night.
