Show Review: Thornhill plays Vibes Event Center

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Vibes Event Center in downtown San Antonio always draws an incredible crowd of fans for any show it hosts. Thornhill, directly supported by 156/Silence, was no exception on May 6.

The night started early with a fun and informative Q&A session with the VIP crews. Two of the questions asked were about the band’s plans for their merch and clothing lines, and if H2O: Just Add Water was an influence on them. There is no connection between the show and band, just a fun fact of both being Australian, and they are working on producing clothing that is more artistic, elevated, and subtle than the typical finds at merch stands.

As goes their tradition, the band also had the fans play against them in Mario Kart, and Thornhill almost always won, to no one's surprise. They’re gentle winners and never let the fans leave upset at a loss.

156/Silence as direct support was the perfect segue into Thornhill. They riled up the crowd, getting them excited with songs such as Character Development (Cold Start) and a live debut of No Arms. Every member engaged and kept the energy going through every track they played. Huge stomps, spins, and screams dominated their stage. Vocalist Jack Murray maintained a commanding presence on the mic, with every lyric sung and screamed with precision. Despite live streaming their sets every show, plenty of fans were unaware of the new song being played, which was a wonderful surprise for them.

Thornhill ran a captivating and hypnotizing show. Full of fluid movements, tons of smoke, and stunning vocals, the performance made it evident that the band knew how to take charge on stage and get their crowd fired up. Inhaled vocals blended perfectly with clean singing. Both the crowd and the band drew energy from each other the entire night. Silver Swarm was easily an audience favorite, with a handful of crowd surfers making their way across the room amidst the incredibly lively pit. Vocalist Jacob Charlton mixed his fashion into the show as well when he lost his jacket to match the higher energy of the song they were playing.

With a night full of sets as well-orchestrated as these, every element incorporated into the show made it hard for anyone to look away. It was a booming night for Vibes Event Center and fans of 156/Silence and Thornhill.
