BLUHM brings synth dream pop to Chicago’s cozy Schubas Tavern

CHICAGO – Dream pop duo BLUHM brought their synthy, emotional songs to the Windy City on August 21 at Schubas Tavern—an intimate backroom with the perfect acoustics for their atmospheric sound. Composed of vocalist and songwriter Claire Bluhm and multi-instrumentalist and producer John Marion, the duo writes, records, and produces every track themselves. This set marked their first time ever performing in Chicago!

Opening the show were Chicago-based bands Cool Heat and Ghost Days. Cool Heat is an independent dream pop band led by founder Eden Sierotnik, bassist Eric Streichert, guitarist Patrick Dignan, and drummer José Alejandro Rodriguez. They performed songs from their newest project titled Not The Same. Ghost Days is the DIY shoegaze and dream pop solo project of Alessia Kato, a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, joined by guitarist Mikey Rinaldo at the tavern. Both openers set the perfect mood and built up the energy for the rest of the night.

BLUHM performed tracks off their EP Mostly Forever and singles like Low Light and Touch Me. They also performed their newest single, which has yet to be released, Always On Your Mind. They also shared the news of an album release coming early fall of this year!

Bluhm expresses her gratitude for the reception of their song Low Light, sharing how it's what brought a lot of people in the crowd to discover BLUHM. It is their most streamed track and has caught the attention of Spotify’s editorial team with placements on Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, and Indie Chillout. It also earned them early radio play on Gorilla vs. Bear’s show on Sirius XMU.

This show solidified why BLUHM is the next band to watch as they head into their fall album cycle. The next stop is a home show at El Club in Detroit, Michigan on August 29 with support from Iron Years and Dead Buds.
