There is something telling about having a line wrapped around an entire block on a Tuesday night in Los Angeles. The anticipation for Thank God It’s Almost Monday Tour was high as fans gathered for a night filled with sun-soaked guitar riffs, danceable rhythms, and singalongs, making it an escape from the everyday.
Rec Hall hit the stage with breezy, indie-surf sounds that set the perfect tone for the evening. Across an eight-song set, the band blended in smooth guitar work and catchy melodies on tracks like “Turn Me On” and “Delay.” Their mix of sounds was balanced by playful crowd interaction, as they shared relatable stories, giving the fans an opportunity to participate. The band demanded the room to shake by jumping along during their song “How Long,” bringing a new wave of energy to the room. The set closed with a nostalgic song for them: “She Doesn't Know.” It was one of the first songs the band had written in high school. It was only their second night opening up for Almost Monday and the crowd’s applause and cheers filled the room from floor to ceiling.
By 9:12pm, the crowd was stoked, antsy, and ready for the headliner. A big white backdrop reading “Thank God It’s Almost Monday" had been revealed as San Diego’s trio launched into “She Walks in The Room” and flowed straight into “Can’t Get Enough.” Breaking out in a guitar solo early in the set established the band's chemistry, while smooth transition kept the momentum moving. Almost Monday’s blend of indie-pop, alternative rock, and groovy tunes made standing still feel almost impossible.
The setlist drew from both their older album Dive, as well as their newest album Thank God It’s Almost Monday showcasing its vibrant production and personal moments. With fans moving along to their infectious rhythm, “Sunburn” opened up acoustically into “Losing Streak” and “Leaving is Easy,” which offered softer contrast to the band’s upbeat energy. They had even covered “You Get What You Give” bringing a nostalgic singalong to the room. Colorful visuals complimented the upbeat sound while the fluid transition made it more cohesive while maintaining a connection with the audience. Closing with “Better Late Than Never” had their fans ending the night on a fittingly optimistic note.
Together, Rec Hall and Almost Monday, are a perfect blend of energetic performances, infectious melodies, and groovy moves. The evening captured the appeal of live indie-pop: music that allows you to move freely, sing at the top of your lungs, and forget about tomorrow for just a little bit.
